what to pack for wine country

One of the perks of living in the Bay Area is the easy access to Sonoma, Napa, and the Russian River wine country. Depending on where you’re located, it can be as little as an hour’s drive to go from city streets to picturesque views of wineries. I’ve been more than I’d like to admit, and when the folks at HomeAway reached out to ask for my take on packing essentials, I figured it would be useful to explore some spring/summer looks as the temperatures start to really heat up.

I’ve really been feeling deep indigos and tribal inspired prints lately, in both my wardrobe and what I’m using in my home decor (shibori on everything, please!) and I find wine country is best enjoyed with little fuss and a bit of flair. Add one or two of these pieces to your spring/summer capsule to mix things up a bit. Pair an easy dress, romper, or chambray short situation with a chunky heel or sandal with tribal accents, plus the requisite sunnies, floppy hat, and sunscreen for an easy look. And don’t forget to bring your own hydration, as those tastings can sneak up on you.

Since I am in prime house-building inspiration mode, I made it a priority to check out Macrostie Winery (above) on our last trip out. The concrete floors, post-and-beam ceiling, leather accents and wood-tone mixing is exactly what I’m thinking for our new home. Macrostie is located a little south of Healdsburg, which is my favorite area of wine country. A little farther north than Napa or Sonoma, Healdsburg is home to some amazing wineries, hotels, and restaurants. We’ve stayed at the H2 Hotel and have found quite a few places to rent for our next long weekend on Homeaway. Since the area can be a bit pricey for overnight stays, I’d love to splurge on a large house and do a friends weekend soon. I’m also in love with the design of the Ram’s Gate Winery (above) but haven’t had a chance to check them out. Other places I’ve been and recommend include Twomey, VML, and DaVero. Let me know if you head to Healdsburg, I’d love to hear about your experience!
